Nick Reed … fighter pilot?

Nick Reed

When the Seahawks selected Nick Reed in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft, they envisioned the undersized pass-rusher from the University of Oregon making a name for himself by using his heart and effort to sack opposing quarterbacks.

Now, Reed is training to become fighter pilot. Say what? Jason La Canfora at has the next amazing chapter in Reed’s story here.

Reed was released by the Seahawks in 2010 and was out of the league that season. He then spent time with the Bears (2011), Buccaneers (2011-12) and Vikings (2012). His career totals: 17 tackles and one sack.

“I started this process after the Seahawks cut me when I got hurt,” Reed said. “I was trying out for a bunch of teams – I think I went to 10 teams in 2010 – and I didn’t get picked up until the Bears signed me in 2011. So I kind of saw the writing was on the wall and I started this process. It’s something I always wanted to do, and it’s a long process to be a pilot.”
