What’s a coach to do when rain-slick practice fields force an OTA session to be moved inside?
Focus on red-zone offense and defense, which is exactly what Pete Carroll did today as the Seahawks worked out in the indoor practice facility at Virginia Mason Athletic Center. It can get a bit crowed with 74 of the players on the 90-man roster practicing on one field, but the impact was diminished with a lot of drills taking place on either end of that field.
Matt Flynn was up first in the quarterback rotation today, and the free-agent addition showed a nice touch and also good velocity on several of his deeper throws during the two-hour practice. On one of his better plays, Flynn used a pump fake to momentarily freeze the defensive back, slid slightly in the pocket to buy his receiver a little extra time and then passed to Ricardo Lockette for a touchdown. Flynn also found Doug Baldwin in the corner of the end zone by dropping a pass over two defenders.
The team will conclude the second week of its OTA practices on Friday, and then hold the final four OTA sessions next week. The only mandatory minicamp of the offseason will be held June 12-14.
