Cruise with the Seahawks – Day 2

Today we at sea.  This evening we will have our first Seahawks event, a meet and greet Fiesta party where fans will have the opportunity to chat and mingle with our Seahawks hosts.

Just to give you all some background on my friends, here are some bios on each:

Coach Tom Cable, a Seattle native, grew up in the Snohomish area and played football at Snohomish H.S.  He actually played in the NFL when he became a replacement player during the 1987 NFL player strike.  After his playing days ended, he became an assistant coach at his Alma matre in Snohomish under his own former head coach, Dick Armstrong, who at the time was the winningest high school coach in Washington state history.  While coaching at Snohomish, he also was a special education teacher.  Tom said that he always knew he wanted to coach from the time he was a little kid.  For him, it was either become a dairy farmer or coach!

After he left Snohomish, he began a 20 year college coaching career starting out as a graduate assistant at University of Idaho, followed by an assistant coaching job at Reno, San Diego State.  Cal State Fullerton, UNLV, California, Colorado, back to Idaho as the head coach, then UCLA where he met Coach Brian Schneider.  He then joined the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons as an assistant coach, followed by the head coaching job at the Oakland Raiders.  And now, he reside back in Washington as our Assistant Head coach and Offensive Line coach.

Coach Brian Schneider also played high school football, in Colorado at Pomona High School. He then played and coached at Colorado State, followed by UCLA where he met Coach Cable, then Iowa State, Air Force, back with Coach Cable at Oakland, then USC with Pete Carroll, and now in Seattle, as our Special Teams coach.

Will Lewis played ball at Millersville State in Pennsylvania.  He was an undrafted free agent DB in 1980 with the Seahawks, and former teammate of mine in 1981.  He also played in the USFL and the Canadian Football League.  He later became a coach for NFL Europe, followed by a job at his alma mater Millersville State, then to University of Maine, University of West Virginia and then to the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons.  He joined Coach Holmgren’s staff in Green Bay as a scout and accompanied him to Seattle, where he is now our VP of Football Operations.

Tomorrow we will have our Chalk Talk session and get to talk some real football with these guys!  They are very excited to share some fun stories, some Seahawks insight and their expectations for the upcoming season.  We will also get to see beautiful Glacier Bay.

So until tomorrow…
