Reviewing the victory

The future is oh-so-bright, yet today is a day to look back.

Fortunately for Seattle, the past happens to be awfully glistening as well.

The Seahawks, fresh off their 41-36 victory over the Saints and just six days from their next playoff matchup against the Bears, gathered this afternoon to review Saturday’s win. And what a joyful review it was.

Coach Pete Carroll called Saturday “a beautiful day for us” as he led the team through the film of the game that now sends the Seahawks into the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Besides the obvious, a few hidden factors stood out for Carroll as he reviewed the game with his team so they could learn and move on into preparation for the Bears game:

  • The defense’s stop on 4th-and-1 in the third quarter: The play stalled a Saints drive and shored up momentum for the Seahawks. “That was a huge statement in the game,” Carroll said.
  • Field position battle: Seven of New Orleans’ 13 drives started inside their 20, including five-of-six in the second and third quarters.
  • Coming back from 10-0 and 17-7: The Seahawks battled back and went on a 27-3 run to take control of the game when they could have rolled over instead. “It’s a great illustration of the power of resolve and finishing strong,” Carroll said.

So now the Seahawks move on past the thrilling win and begin to turn their focus to Sunday’s playoff matchup at Chicago. The week’s regimen remains the same as always, a key factor in getting the Seahawks in the right mindset for the game, Carroll said.

In all regards, it’s a normal game week for the Seahawks.

“We go right back to doing the things way we do them,” Carroll told his players. “We’ve prepared all year to be in this situation. Let’s get right back in it — we’re not changing a thing. You know exactly how to do it.”
