Christmas travel plans

For the final time in the regular season, the Seahawks will be hitting the road this weekend.

And because of two unique circumstances surrounding the game in Tampa Bay, this journey will be a little different than previous long-distance trips.

With Christmas being on Saturday and a later kickoff on Sunday, the team has decided to fly out Saturday morning instead of Friday afternoon, giving coaches and players time to be with their families on Christmas Eve this Friday. The flexed 4:15 p.m. Eastern start time to the Seahawks-Buccaneers game has afforded the team the option to fly out a day later than usual since the kickoff time isn’t different for the players’ body clocks.

Seattle’s charter flight will depart SeaTac at 10 a.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to arrive in Tampa at 5:45 p.m. Eastern, meaning the team will spend Christmas day flying cross-country. The Seahawks will then bus to their hotel and begin traditional eve-of-game meetings at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

Then on game day, the Seahawks will get the morning to sleep in and relax before the first buses depart for Raymond James Stadium at 12:30 p.m. Eastern. Following the 4:15 p.m. kickoff, the team will head to the airport, with a scheduled departure set for 9:30 p.m. Eastern. Arrival back at SeaTac is estimated for 12 midnight.

All told, that’ll be 5,020 round trip miles flown in 38 hours for the Seahawks, who will have a very different Christmas weekend compared to the rest of the country.
