The Seahawks have filled the roster spot that opened when wide receiver Deon Butler was placed on injured reserve by signing guard Paul Fanaika off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.
The 6-foot-5, 327-pound Fanaika was a seventh-round draft choice out of Arizona State by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009. He spent 11 weeks on the Eagles’ practice squad before being signed to the Washington Redskins’ 53-man roster on Nov. 23. He then signed with the Browns in June.
Butler had his right leg broken making a touchdown catch in the closing minutes of Sunday’s loss to the 49ers in San Francisco and underwent surgery that night.
