David Hawthorne led the Seahawks in tackles last season after stepping in at middle linebacker for an injured Lofa Tatupu.
With Tatupu back, the player they call “Heater” has moved to weak-side linebacker this season. But he’s making a late run for two in a row.
Hawthorne had a team-leading 12 tackles in Sunday’s loss to the Saints in New Orleans, giving him 52 in 10 games. That pulls him into a four-way tie for the team lead with strong safety Lawyer Milloy, Tatupu and free safety Earl Thomas.
Hawthorne has 26 of his tackles in the past three games – 12 against the Saints, two against the Cardinals last week and 12 more against the Giants the week before that. He also intercepted his first pass against the Saints, after picking off three last season.
