Seahawks kicker Olindo Mare has been named the NFC special teams player of the week for his five field-goal performance – which came with an asterisk – in Sunday’s 22-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals at Qwest Field.
The award was announced by the league this morning.
Mare’s unconventional effort helped lift the Seahawks into sole possession of first place, and extended his club-record streak of consecutive field goals to 30.
Wide receiver Mike Williams was a finalist for offensive player of the week for his career-best 11-catch outing against the Cardinals, while Raiders running back was the pick for AFC offensive player of the week after rushing for a career-high 165 yards and scoring four touchdowns in Oakland’s big win at Denver.
The Seahawks play the Raiders in Oakland on Sunday.
