It’s Deon for Deion

Second-year wide receiver Deon Butler will step into the starting flanker position to replace Deion Branch, who was traded back to the New England Patriots on Monday.

Coach Pete Carroll made the announcement of Butler’s promotion today during his midweek Q&A session with reporters.

Ben Obomanu will backup Butler, with rookie Golden Tate working behind Mike Williams at split end. Recently signed Brandon Stokley will continue to work from the slot in the three- and four-receiver sets.

Carroll also said that cornerback Marcus Trufant (ankle) and right tackle Sean Locklear (knee) will return to practice when the Seahawks take the field in a few minutes to continuing preparing for Sunday’s game against the Bears in Chicago. Trufant and Locklear sat out the team’s two bye-week practices, as well as Monday’s bonus practice.
