Preparation is everything to the success of a football team.
It’s so important, that even preparation for a road trip takes on a whole new level.
And it happens in large part thanks to the preparatory efforts of communications manager Rich Gonzales, who wears two hats for the Seahawks — a full-time public relations staffer who also handles the advance travel logistics on the weekends.
Gonzales heads out two days prior to each road trip, flying to the city of the away game to take care of final preparations before the team arrives. He checks with the hotel, the airport and the bus company to ensure things will roll smoothly once the Seahawks land.
Gonzales’ efforts might go unnoticed by a majority of the travel party, but they’re definitely appreciated by team travel coordinator Jeremy Young, who handles all the planning before turning it over to Gonzales for the final run-through in the hours leading up to the Seahawks’ arrival.
“It’s very comforting and helpful having someone there double-checking everything and being our eyes on the ground,” Young said. “And Rich is really good at it too. He’s very valuable for the success of our trips.”
