Pink for a purpose

The NFL will think pink this weekend and all throughout October.

For the second straight year, players, coaches and officials will wear pink during the month of October to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. A fresh shipment of pink-colored gear has arrived at Seahawks headquarters, as the team will wear the accent on gloves, shoes, wristbands, hats and captains patches for the games against St. Louis (Oct. 3), Chicago (Oct. 17) and Arizona (Oct. 24).

Besides the players’ gear, coaches will wear pink ribbons on their shirts and pink-accented hats. Officials will also have pink on their uniforms.

All in all, teams will don pink-accented gear on 64 occasions during the coming four weekends. On the opening weekend this Sunday and Monday, 26 of the 32 teams will wear pink.

The Seahawks’ captain patches will be pink this weekend and for two other games in October to help raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

Coaches will have the option of wearing pink-accented shoes during the next month as part of the NFL’s breast cancer awareness campaign.
