Uphill battle

Nothing like the experienced veteran taking a rookie under his wing — and then running him to exhaustion.

It was all for good reason though.

Following Wednesday’s practice, ninth-year wideout Deion Branch took rookie receiver Golden Tate aside for a little extra workout near the grass berm bordering the practice fields. Branch led Tate through a drill aimed to work on breaking press coverage and then improve conditioning by sprinting uphill.

The teammates were at it for about 15 minutes Wednesday afternoon, with both Branch and Tate exhausted by the end of the drill.

“You really feel it,” Branch said with a laugh.
