Coach Pete Carroll turns 59 today, and besides his birthday for a cause campaign, he’ll also be celebrating with an annual tradition after practice this afternoon.
Only problem is that, for the first time in his life, he might not be able to complete it.
Each year on his birthday, Carroll has made it his goal to throw a football as many yards as his age. The always competitive Carroll considers it a present to himself. He’s done it on Sept. 15 every year, although he’s not too confident his 59-year-old arm will be able to achieve the feat today.
“I don’t know what happened, but I lost it recently,” a smiling Carroll said. “I’m disappointed.”
He said his throws are maxing out at about 50 yards lately, but he’s not going to let that prevent him from gunning for a 59-yard pass after practice today.
“I’m going to give it a try,” Carroll said. “Hopefully I can make it happen.”
