Sunday’s season opener will be a cherished experience for Coach Pete Carroll — and not just because of the obvious reasons.

His first game as the Seahawks coach makes it big, but the opponent adds an extra touch of magnitude for Carroll. He grew up in the Bay Area as a 49ers fan and then was defensive coordinator for two seasons in 1995-96.

Needless to say, the always enthused Carroll is especially excited for kickoff on Sunday.

“The people I like and respect the most are the ones I love playing against the most,” Carroll said. “I always like playing against people I have a relationship with. It makes it a little bit more fun.”
