On the day the Seahawks had to trim their roster to 53 players, they also lost a coach: Alex Gibbs.
The veteran offensive line coach announced his resignation today. Gibbs, 69, was worn out and decided to step down now. Coach Pete Carroll had talked Gibbs into joining his staff after Carroll was hired in January.
Gibbs’ abrupt departure leaves assistant offensive line coach Art Valero in charge of the unit as the team prepares for its Sept. 12 regular-season opener against the San Francisco 49ers at Qwest Field.
