This weekend’s trip to Minnesota will be a homecoming of sorts for tight end John Carlson and Coach Pete Carroll.
Carlson grew up about 70 miles west of Minneapolis in Litchfield, Minn., where he was a two-time all-state tight end before heading off to Notre Dame.
In a different way, Carroll will also be returning home. From 1985-89, Carroll coached defensive backs for the Vikings, working under legendary head coach Bud Grant for one season before Jerry Burns took over for Carroll’s last four years. Before his nine years at USC, it was the longest amount of time Carroll spent in one job.
“It’s fun to go back and catch up with old friends,” Carroll said. “Even though it’s not technically home, Minnesota is a special place for me.”
