Stick it to ’em

Equipment intern Andrew Scott applies double-sided tape to players’ pads, a routine duty for the equipment staffers, who remove, re-apply and trim the tape to fit each player’s gear at the start of each week. The powerfully adhesive material — referred to as “carpet tape” since it’s similar to the tape used to install carpet — keeps jerseys tight to the pads for both aesthetic and strategic reasons, since the jerseys can’t be grabbed or held by an opponent.
