Plays of the day

Check out the highlights from Sunday’s intra-squad scrimmage at Husky Stadium:

  • With Matt Hasselbeck out to nurse a sore hamstring, backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst made the most of his opportunity, throwing two touchdowns in the defense-minded scrimmage.
  • The first score came on a short pass to tight end Chris Baker, as Whitehurst rolled out to his left to find Baker wide open in the back of the end zone.
  • On the final play of the scrimmage, Whitehurst hit receiver Mike Williams on a slant in the end zone for the second touchdown.
  • Tailback Justin Forsett had a handful of nice rushes, as well as a great catch-and-run on a dump-down screen pass up the middle.
  • On a great pass from Whitehurst, veteran wideout Deion Branch made a long reception over the middle between defenders.
  • Cornerback Kelly Jennings turned in an excellent pass breakup on a comeback route near the left sideline.
  • Wideout Deon Butler ran an exceptional route up the seam to create separation from the defensive back, setting up a phenomenal soaring catch near the goal line. The throw from Charlie Whitehurst couldn’t have been better, as well.
  • Defensive linemen Craig Terrill and Chris Clemons teamed up for a sack of quarterback J.P. Losman on a third down early in the scrimmage.
