Minicamp guest blog: Matt Hasselbeck, Day 4

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has been giving you his perspective throughout this weekend’s minicamp in a daily guest blog. Here’s his fourth and final entry as the team wrapped up camp on Sunday (read his first entry here, second entry here and third entry here):

The second minicamp is done, and it was another great minicamp after our first one a few weeks ago. In Coach Carroll’s first team meeting a few months ago, he challenged us to have the best offseason of our lives, and we’re off to a great start.

One of the points of emphasis with this second minicamp was finishing strong. Yesterday we battled the elements — it was cold and windy — but none of that mattered. We had an awesome practice and a very competitive “move the ball” period at the end that was basically like a scrimmage. It was 1s vs. 1s and 2s vs. 2s. John Carlson really showed up today — he has two huge catches in a row at the end to get us a touchdown instead of settling for a field goal. Hopefully the coaches are happy with the fact that we cashed in on the opportunity to finish minicamp strong. Finishing strong is one of the main points of emphasis Coach Carroll gives us every day. We’ve got to do things right, do it longer than the opponent and outlast them one play at a time.

Minicamp was a neat opportunity to meet all of our new players. They’re all headed home now, and some will go back to finish up school. The rest of us get today off, which is well-deserved, but we’ll be right back to work on Tuesday watching the film, lifting weights and focusing on what we can do in the weight room to get bigger, stronger, faster. We’re coming back next week for more football when OTAs start up next Tuesday.

I think Coach Carroll and all the coaches have to be pleased with how we’ve progressed as a team from the first minicamp to this second one. He challenged us to improve and keep maximizing our potential. He’s setting the vision with how good we can be, and we’re following his lead and trying to get there. We’re on our way. We’re definitely improving as a football team. I’m sure that’s why he’s so jacked up, because the rest of us are too.
