Coach Carroll put on his philosophizer hat during this morning’s staff meeting.
“Our philosophy should weave itself into everything,” Carroll told his assistants before laying out the team’s attitudes and beliefs on everything from practice (“practice is everything”) to competition (“the central theme of our organization”) to style (“great effort, great enthusiasm, great toughness and play smart”).
The meeting lasted just a half hour, but it was packed with enough meaty thoughts, dictums and guiding principles to fill up a textbook. And of course, all eyes and thoughts pointed to next week’s voluntary minicamp, set to begin Tuesday at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton. The three-day camp will be the first live football interaction between the players and new staff, which is already creating a substantial buzz among the coaches.
“Everything counts,” Carroll said to his staffers, repeating one of his foundational phrases. “Let’s do it better than it’s ever been done before.”
