The Seahawks got an extra draft choice today when the league awarded the compensatory selections at the owners meetings in Florida. The Seahawks’ bonus selection will come in the seventh round, No. 245 overall and one of 16 in the final round.
Extra picks also were awarded in the third round (three), fourth round (one), fifth round (six) and sixth round (six). None, however, went to the Seahawks.
The extra picks are awarded to teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents than it signs the previous year. The picks are awarded using a formula devised by the NFL Management Council and is based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.
The Cincinnati Bengals got compensatory picks in the third and fourth rounds, in part, because they lost wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh to the Seahawks.
