On Matt-ers of the draft and Super Bowl
This week, the eyes of the NFL are focused on Mobile, Ala. — and in Mobile, site of the Senior Bowl. New Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and his staff are there to take in the practices. But few NFL types actually stay for the game, because video is made available to every team. It’s the practices this week that draw all the attention as clubs continue their preparations for the NFL draft – where the Seahawks hold the sixth and 14th selections in the first round on April 22.
Next week, the eyes of the sporting world will be on South Florida, site of the Super Bowl matchup between the Colts and Saints on Feb. 7.
The folks at Sporting News Today have come up with a factoid that encompasses both events, and it includes the Seahawks’ Matt Hasselbeck. He is No. 6 on the list of starting quarterbacks in the Super Bowl who were selected the lowest in the draft:
QB, team Selection Round
Brad Johnson, Buccaneers 227 Ninth
David Woodley, Dolphins 214 Eighth
Joe Kapp, Vikings 209 Eighteenth
Bart Starr, Packers 200 Seventh
Tom Brady, Patriots 199 Sixth
Matt Hasselbeck, Seahawks 187 Sixth
Kurt Warner (Rams and Cardinals) and Jake Delhomme (Panthers), of course, were not drafted and started in the Super Bowl.
