Jones, the team’s leading rusher, sat out the past two games after bruising a lung in the Week 10 loss to the Cardinals in Arizona.
“Julius will practice,” coach Jim Mora just said during his midweek Q&A with reporters. “We hope to increase his workload and see where he is toward the end of the week.”
In Jones’ absence, backup Justin Forsett has sampled from each end of the success spectrum – 123 yards against the Cardinals, 9 yards against the Vikings and a career-high 130 yards against the Rams.
Jones’ conditioning will be a factor in whether he plays, and how much he plays, Mora said.
“The intensity of the game is different than practice, it’s different than being in the weight room or running extra sprints on your own,” Mora said. “So that’s something you certainly have to be aware of.”
Three players will not practice today: defensive lineman Cory Redding (concussion), defensive end Lawrence Jackson (strained groin) and linebacker D.D. Lewis (sprained knee).
