Seahawks MLB David Hawthorne vs. Rams RB Steve Jackson: As with the Vikings’ Adrian Peterson last week, containing Jackson might start with the Seahawks’ leading tackler, but Hawthorne will need help. As defensive coordinator Gus Bradley puts it, “We want 11 helmets on Jackson as often as possible.” That’s because this battering Ram of a back leads the NFC in rushing (1,031 yards) and total yards from scrimmage (1,262) and is looking for his fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing performance. Hawthorne had 15 of his team-leading 70 tackles against the Vikings – in his fifth start for the injured Lofa Tatupu – so stopping Jackson will hinge heavily on Hawthorne’s ability to read the play and get to him first.
One to Watch
John Carlson. The Seahawks’ second-year tight end did not have a catch against the Vikings for only the second time in 26 games with the team. That can’t happen again, especially against the Rams. Carlson caught six passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener as the Seahawks won 28-0. He also had five receptions for 76 yards against the Rams in St. Louis last December. The Seahawks need to get Carlson involved early this week.
Fun to Watch
Aaron Curry. The Seahawks’ first-round draft choice exploded onto the NFL scene with a disruptive performance against the Rams in the season opener. But the rookie linebacker has only 12 tackles in the past four games. Curry says the drop off can be traced to him playing too much under control and he is promising to pop the cork on his passion in this game.
