Jones to IR

Walter Jones

Wow. Talk about your newsy news conference. Coach Jim Mora just announced three major developments during his regular midweek session:

Left Walter Jones will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season that never got started because of pain in his surgically repaired left knee.

Middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu is in Alabama meeting with Dr. James Andrews to have his damaged left pectoral examined. It will then be decided if Tatupu needs season-ending surgery.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will not practice today because of soreness in his rib. But he will play in Sunday’s game against the Cowboys in Dallas.

Also, former University of Washington running back Louis Rankin has been added to the 53-man roster, filling the spot that opened when Jones was placed on IR; Damion McIntosh will start at left tackle against the Cowboys, and Rob Sims should be back at left guard; and cornerback Marcus Trufant and linebacker Leroy Hill will play this week.
