A few of the highlights from coach Jim Mora’s just-completed news conference:
- Ken Lucas is with his family, and will remain with them until his father’s funeral on Friday. His father died last Friday. Lucas will rejoin the team in time to play in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals at Qwest Field.“There are more important things in life than a football game,” Mora said. “It’s sacrilegious when a head coach says that, I realize that. But it’s true. … Kenny needs some time to grieve and be with his family.”
- Kyle Williams is the likely starter at left tackle this week, after Brandon Frye had to be placed on injured reserve because of the neck injury he got in Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. The injury was originally called a “stinger,” but there is more to it than that, Mora said. Frye will get additional tests.“His neck injury looks like it was significant,” Mora said. “That’s unfortunate for both Brandon and us, because he’d really worked hard and he was doing a nice job for us.”
- Veteran tackle Damion McIntosh was signed to fill Frye’s roster spot, while former Oregon lineman Mark Lewis was added to the practice squad to replace Williams – who was signed to the 53-man roster on Saturday.“We’re just collecting offensive linemen right now,” Mora said with a chuckle.
- Fullback Justin Griffith will return this week after missing two games with a sprained knee, and he will start against the Cardinals.
