First quarter

Julius Jones

The Seahawks came out in their new green jerseys and quickly took a 10-0 lead in the first 15 minutes.

The game started ominously for the Seahawks, as the Bears’ Johnny Knox took Olindo Mare’s kickoff 8 yards deep in the end zone and returned it 53 yards. Mare had to make the tackle, and grabbed Knox’s face mask in the process – tacking another 15 yards onto the return and giving the Bears a first down at the Seahawks’ 40-yard line.

But the defense held and Bears kicker Robbie Gould was well short on a 53-yard field goal attempt, so the Seahawks took over on their 43.

Instead, it was the Seahawks who scored first, as Julius Jones caught a pass from Seneca Wallace on third-and-19 pass and took it to the end zone – after running through an attempted tackle by Bears cornerback Charles Tillman.

The Bears drove to the Seahawks’ 17 on their next possession, but middle linebacker David Hawthorne intercepted a Jay Cutler pass that went off Knox. Wallace then engineered an 11-play drive to Mare’s 46-yard field goal. Wallace passed to Ben Obomanu for 11 yards on third-and-8 and then for 16 yards to Nate Burleson on third-and-4.
