Trey Anastasio is the leader of the band Phish. Russell Wilson is the quarterback of the Seahawks.
What could they possibly have in common? Phish’s popular song named – what else? – “Wilson.” Anastasio is currently on tour as a solo act, and he just happened to open the tour in Seattle.
That’s when he made his push for “Wilson” to be played every time Russell Wilson steps on the field during the 2013 season.
Confused? Will Brinson at CBSSports.com has more details.
“Next season, every time Russell Wilson walks onto the field … we want the organ player … I think you know where I’m going with this – you guys gotta help me out somehow,” Anastasio told the Seattle crowd. “Social media – and tell your friends! Somebody has to make this happen because for 30 years we’ve been waiting for someone with the name to make Wilson be a sports star. So I’ll play the song – you guys make it happen!”
