Russell Wilson advances to “elite eight” of Madden cover vote

Russell Wilson

Quarterback Russell Wilson is still alive in the “New School” bracket of the online-voting competition to determine who will adorn the cover of the EA’s Madden NFL 25 video game.

Wilson received 88 percent of the 658,888 votes in his first-round matchup against Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon, earned 63 percent of the 462,220 votes in his second-round bout with Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, and edged out fellow rookie-class quarterback Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts with 57 percent of the 585,070 votes in the round of 16.

Wilson now faces Houston Texans running back Arian Foster in the competition’s “elite eight.” Matched up on the other side of the “New School” bracket are Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. The “Old School” side features quarterback Joe Montana up against running back Barry Sanders, and wide receiver Jerry Rice taking on cornerback Deion Sanders.

Voting for the round of eight started today and runs through April 10 at espn.com/MaddenVote. You can also check out the first online image to surface of the new game here.
