HONOLULU – Heidi knew she was in for the experience of a lifetime when she was selected to be the Sea Gals’ representatives at the Pro Bowl. As it’s turning out, her week in Paradise has included even more than she expected.
Like being involved in the taping of a scene for an upcoming episode of Hawaii Five-0 after the Pro Bowl squads had practiced at their home base in Ko Olina on Friday. Like “beating” a trio of team mascots to score a touchdown at Aloha Stadium on Saturday after the teams completed their final on-field sessions before Sunday’s game.
“It’s just been so much fun getting to know these other girls,” Heidi said, her voice a bit horse as she nears the end of her whirlwind week. “We’re working really hard. But it’s just an amazing experience. You can’t describe it.”
Heidi has been a Sea Gal for seven years and traveled the world as a member of the Show Group. She also has danced at the Super Bowl. But this is her first trip to the Pro Bowl.
So what about the appearance on Hawaii Five-0, where Heidi was joined by representatives from the dance teams of the Cardinals, Vikings and Redskins?
“I had no idea that was going to happen,” she said. “We only found out the night before. They just told us, ‘You’re going to be getting up early in the morning to go to the NFC practice and then you’re going to be in a shot for Hawaii Five-0.
“I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ ”
As for her trip into the end zone, that was part of the ’Ohana Day activities at the stadium, where fans were invited to attend the NFC and AFC practices and also treated to other activities – like Heidi showing a different set of moves to score a touchdown while leaving the mascots from the Bears, Buccaneers and Cowboys in her wake.
The week hasn’t been all work and no play, however.
“Actually yesterday, after my morning activities, I had the rest of the day off,” she said. “So it was great. We had some beach time. We went to a food truck event.
“It’s been an amazing experience so far. And I’m so excited for Game Day tomorrow.”
