Thanks to your fan votes, Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson has won Rookie of the Week for his Week 10 performance in the team’s 28-7 victory over the New York Jets, the NFL announced this afternoon.
Wilson completed 12 of 19 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets, improving his record to 5-0 at home, where he has thrown 11 touchdowns to zero interceptions on the year, and where his play has helped the Seahawks to a 6-4 record as they enjoy their bye this week. On the season, Wilson has thrown for 1,827 yards, 15 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, good for a 90.5 passer rating. His 15 passing touchdowns are tops in the NFL among all rookie quarterbacks.
By way of fan vote Wilson beat out the likes of four other fellow rookies: Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Leonard Johnson, who returned an interception 83 yards for a touchdown in a 34-24 win over the San Diego Chargers; Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who finished 18 of 26 for 227 yards and ran for two scores in a 27-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars; St. Louis Rams punter Johnny Hekker, who executed two fake punts in a 24-24 tie with the San Francisco 49ers; and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jarius Wright, who hauled in three passes for 65 yards and a touchdown in a 34-24 defeat of the Detroit Lions.
It is the first time Wilson has won the award, but the rookie out of Wisconsin has been nominated four other times this year (after a Week 9 win over the Minnesota Vikings, after a Week 6 win over the New England Patriots, after a Week 3 win over the Green Bay Packers, and after a Week 2 win over the Dallas Cowboys).
