Calm, yet still working
The dog days of the offseason have settled in at Virginia Mason Athletic Center, and even though the 2010 season is merely a memory and the 2011 campaign is more than six months away, the daily activity doesn’t grind to a halt. Far from it, in fact. The Seahawks engine continues to purr through the [...]
Coaching carrousel: From B to Z
Several former coaches for the Seahawks have landed new jobs, including Jim Zorn. The franchise’s original quarterback, who then coached the position for the Seahawks from 2001-07, was hired today to be the Kansas City Chiefs’ QB coach. Zorn was the QB coach with the Baltimore Ravens last season following a two-year stint as head [...]
Gray moves to Titans
Jerry Gray’s tenure as assistant head coach at his alma mater, the University of Texas, lasted all of 24 days. The Seahawks’ defensive backs coach during the 2010 season has another new job: Defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans on the staff being compiled by new coach Mike Munchak. Gray left the Seahawks following their [...]
Seahawks really were ‘special’
Rick Gosselin’s annual rankings of the league’s special-teams units for the Dallas Morning News proved something that was apparent all season: The Seahawks were among the best in the NFL. The Seahawks finished in a tie for fourth with the Bears and Raiders (280 points), behind the Patriots (269), Titans (274) and Browns (277). The [...]
Tootin’ for Newton
Cam Newton’s media-only workout in San Diego today came with one former Seahawks quarterback on the field with him and another singing the praises of the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn on TV. In fact, Hall of Fame QB Warren Moon actually stopped one drill to correct Newton. “He wasn’t transferring well,” Moon, who is [...]
Balmer ‘humbled’ by honor
Kentwan Balmer is not only going home, he’ll be doing it to a hero’s welcome. The Seahawks’ defensive lineman will have his number retired at Weldon (N.C.) High School on Friday night, during a halftime ceremony at the school’s basketball game. “I don’t know what to say,” Balmer told the Daily Herald. “It’s nice to [...]
For a good read
Former Packers personnel man and current Seahawks general manager John Schneider watched with excitement as the team he helped build became Super Bowl champions on Sunday. Read all about it in the latest feature from Seahawks.com.
Mock, mock
The Seahawks are holding meetings this week to get ready for the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis (Feb. 23-March 1), which is the next big step in preparing for the NFL draft (April 28-30). “The combine, to me, is phenomenal,” general manager John Schneider said. “Everything is a step in the process – from all [...]
Moen signed
Barrett Moen is back. The Seahawks re-signed the former University of Minnesota defensive tackle today. Moen (6-4, 282) was with the team in June and participated in a minicamp, but was released when defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis was signed.
‘Super’ thoughts
The Howard Green who drove his blocker into Ben Roethlisberger to force the first-quarter interception that was returned for a touchdown in Sunday’s Super Bowl game against the Packers and Steelers? Yep, the same Howard Green who played defensive tackle for the Seahawks in 2007-08. Green’s emergence as an injury-replacement signee who played 18 games [...]
