You can put it on the board

Consider it Pete Carroll’s new toy.

And as a result, the Seahawks head coach is giddy with excitement.

Workers installed a 16-by-24-foot scoreboard on the northeast corner of the Virginia Mason Athletic Center practice fields today, fulfilling one of Carroll’s off-field wishes for the 2010 season. The massive black scoreboard — which is adorned with a Seahawks logo, a Bing logo and Carroll’s “Always Compete” mantra — will serve as the constant reminder of competition during practices.

“I love it,” Carroll said this afternoon after seeing the finished product. “It looks awesome.”

As part of the head coach’s practice philosophy, Carroll likes keeping score during drills, all in an effort to raise the tenor of competition and increase the level of play. In sports, the scoreboard acts as the ultimate symbol of competition — and now it’s even on the Seahawks practice field.

Check out some photos of the installation process this afternoon:

One 6-by-24-foot section of the scoreboard sits on the truck waiting to be installed.
